On 18 February 1478, George, duke of Clarence was murdered in the Tower of London on the orders of his brother Edward IV, king of England. Families!

Method: By Drowning in a barrel of wine.

In 1470, the duke in happier times spent two pleasant weeks in Amboise.

Louis XI invited him to stay as his honoured guest in the Royal Château where his wife Queen Charlotte lived with their daughter Princess Anne.

Louis never stood on ceremony. He never pulled rank. He walked down the hill from the Lion's Gate to meet his guest personally. He embraced him warmly giving him a royal welcome to France.

Louis personally showed the duke to his rooms.

The King honoured his royal visitor from England by acting completely out of character. With no taste for ceremony, never the less he arranged lavish receptions, feasts and a tournament.
